Orang Pendek, the Ape-Man of Sumatra

The natives of Sumatra believed in an ape-man long before remains of Pithecanthropus were discovered in the neighbouring island of Java, and indeed long before Ernst Haeckel had even invented the idea of such creatures in 1865.
