ABSTRACT

A long time will pass before Gulf leaders and ordinary people in the Gulf will understand the reasons that motivated a number of Arab leaders to support the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. Every Kuwaiti child knows that Kuwait welcomed Yasir Arafat when he was a young engineer. In Kuwait, the young engineer became, by his own admission, a millionaire. Kuwait had opened its doors to close to 400,000 Palestinians, who, regardless of what is said about their being treated as second-class persons, worked in Kuwait and sent a portion of their income to their families in the occupied territories and a portion to support the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). The Israeli government intended to solve its problem with the PLO in a radical way by finishing off Yasir Arafat and his comrades. The Palestinian leader sent call after call to the Arab countries.
