ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on concepts discussed in this book. The book looks at the ways that the logic and language of capitalism are imbedded and naturalized in discussions of democratic public education. It considers two pedagogical models that result from the market-economy protocol: first, the linear model of investment and returns that lead to a specific future and, second, a model with property lines that clearly demarcate access to knowledge and responsibility for young people. The book examines the second manifestation of capitalist logic in education, that which marks off territories of knowledge and responsibility and also considers the anonymous Chicago woman's commentary about business partners in the public schools. But the work of Coalition for Positive Sexuality (CPS), in both its mode of distribution and it suggests instead that teenagers are actors now and are making decisions already and thus deserve to have the information to live their lives.
