ABSTRACT

Any believer in creatio ex nihilo must be given pause by the fact that the most influential – not to say entire – trend of philosophical thinking the world around, ancient and modern, has not favoured outright creation. Any mystery seemed more palatable than that of creatio ex nihilo. And, as we have seen, even creationists cannot accept what is probably the greatest objection to creatio, if it is taken, as I think it must, to mean some alteration in the being of God. The objection is: If whatever is considered ultimate, be it God or Space, changes, what would cause the alteration? An ultimate, after all, is introduced to give final intelligibility to all observed change.
