ABSTRACT

Aristotelian analysis presents the concept of precision which was determinative for thought down to the modern time. Analogously, time and motion (kinsis) can validly be referred to as infinite. For they are not infinite in the sense of an actual attribute, but by reference to the process entailed in each. The kinsis of the physical universe is infinite in that physical existence is a perpetual process of coming into being, and kinsis is precisely the process involved in coming into being. Thus Aristotle defines kinsis as the actualization of the potential in so far as it is potential. The process of division into half can go on indefinitely without reaching an end, it will still be a part of an extensive magnitude and thus itself be an extensive magnitude, and accordingly divisible into half. In other words, here it have an instance of infinite addition.
