S. H. Butcher was at this time Professorof Greek in the University of Edinburgh. G. F. Stout had just been appointed to the Chair of Logic and Metaphysics at St. Andrews. Their letters were a heartening welcome to Bosanquet on his consenting to accept the Moral Philosophy Chair in St. Andrews.
