ABSTRACT
The multisensory environments (MSE) permit the child physical, emotional and intellectual space to develop at his or her own pace. Providing the catalyst to promote self-determination requires an imaginative repertoire of MSE teaching approaches. Learning style preference is a facet of the child's personality of which the transdisciplinary team members need to be aware, in order to tailor their approach best. To design learning environments for children with severe communication difficulties particularly those unable to make decisions for themselves, educators must work together using the most sophisticated educational technology and assessment methods available. The MSE can play an important role in promoting Quality of life for individuals with profound, multiple disabilities by expanding his or her range of experiences and interactions. To be value-appropriate, the MSE must incorporate in its design, construction and use aspects which are reasonable for the society in which we live.
