ABSTRACT

We conclude our consideration of a new approach to education for leadership with a discussion of the meaning of campus community. One of the consistent themes of an ELSR is the role of collaboration in holding systems together and in sparking creative approaches to old problems. We have encouraged collaboration as a powerful learning process for students, as a faculty development process and as a campus governance expectation. Collaboration is relatedness in action, often accomplished in the face of profound differences. Differences enrich collaboration and collaboration is the process through which difference is molded into common purpose. In this way, the process of collaboration functions as an important part of the social glue that holds heterogeneous human systems together.
