ABSTRACT

Various effects of deformation, recovery and recrystallisation can be seen in thin sections of deformed metamorphic rocks. The following sections give an introduction to such features, how they form and how they can be recognised. For further details, the texts and edited volumes by Poirier (1985), Barber & Meredith (1990), Knipe & Rutter (1990), Boland & FitzGerald (1993), Passchier & Trouw (1996) and Snoke et al. (in press), plus the review by Green (1992) on TEM analysis of deformation in geological materials, are all invaluable sources of reference.
