ABSTRACT

The AQA AS Philosophy syllabus aimed to introduce students to a number of philosophical issues. The aim at A2 is to build upon the knowledge and skills learned at AS, and to develop both a deeper critical understanding of philosophical theories and an ability to engage in discussions that are conceptually sophisticated. Philosophical depth does not come easily. Philosophy needs to be read slowly and, usually, more than once. Each chapter opens with a brief synopsis of what the chapter covers and what you should be able to do by the end of it, followed by the AQA syllabus for that issue. The discussion follows the AQA syllabus very closely. The examiners mark one's answers according to three principles, known as Assessment Objectives ( AOs ). They are: AO1:Knowledge and understanding; AO2:Interpretation and analysis; and AO3:Assessment and evaluation.
