ABSTRACT

And finally, there is the matter of difference and politics: how identity which rests on difference and division, can produce a political common ground. How … can we think about forms of political action that enable us to understand these processes of identification rooted in difference, rather than try to transcend them? And it seems to us that this project requires not a retreat from class but a desperate need to retheorize where class has gone to, and to rethink, and reassert it in nonessentialist terms.
