Conventional cargoes The principal example of a charge at the load port is fob charges, representing loading charges, sometimes referred to as port liner term charges. If the cargo is above a certain length, or over a certain piece weight, as defined in the tariff, the shipping line may impose a long length additional or heavy lift additional respectively. These charges are normally expressed as an amount of money per tonne; in the case of the long length additional, this is for each unit of length, for example for each metre, or part of a metre, over a specified length.
