ABSTRACT

This chapter guides trainee teachers to complete a detailed and effective lesson plan that will increase their self-confidence and ensure that they cover all the essential elements required. It presents a verbatim record of the tutorial between Alex, a young trainee teacher, and the university-based professional development tutor (PDT) interspersed with a series of reflections. This approach will help them to identify with Alex and realize that many of the problems they face are common amongst trainee teachers. The chapter proposes the extract from Alex's reflective journal, a space for their own notes/reflection, and the tutorial meeting review between Alex and either Dr Sue Storm or Jane Gray. It also provides a summary of key learning points arising from Alex's tutorial with Dr Storm or Jane Gray, a list of agreed action points, and a diagrammatical representation of key aspects of the learning and handouts provided by the PDT during the tutorial; advice on additional reading in the chapter.
