ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book has dwelled on the topic of strategy instruction for L2 learners in order to demonstrate that it is far from one single thing, but rather a wide range of activities that will have differential effect on learners, depending on which activity is selected and how it is actualized. The book also looked at multilingualism from the perspective of how multi- linguals might strategize in the selection of language strategies. The ultimate purpose of in-class strategy instruction and the various other means that students could use to receive it is to get learners to diagnose their own difficulties in language learning, becoming more aware of the strategies that most support them in learning and using the language that they are studying. Terminological refinement for its own sake may be just an academic game. Terminological refinement that leads to genuine language gains is a different matter.
