ABSTRACT

Mr Cooper awoke with a severe pain in the left side of his head. At first he could not think where he was. He felt confused and frightened. The place seemed unfamiliar and his head hurt. He gradually became aware of a woman’s voice and realised it was one he knew. He tried to move but found this difficult: only part of him would move, and his right arm and leg felt very heavy. He tried to talk but he could not say what he wanted: words came out of his mouth wrongly and in the wrong order. He was vaguely aware of his wife talking on the phone. Mr Cooper felt afraid.
