ABSTRACT
Although these sayings, like the two following books (Ecclesiastes and Song of Solomon), were attributed to Solomon, they are, like most books of the Bible, compiled from several documents and traditions, of varying dates. The central section (Prov 10:1–22:16) consists of a large number of discrete sayings, some (at least in origin) of great antiquity.
