ABSTRACT
The great Latin version, prepared by Jerome (c.ad 340–420) from the Hebrew and Greek. It became the standard Latin text of the Western Church throughout the Middle Ages, though inevitably by the sixteenth century the texts in use had become seriously corrupted. Modern texts are much revised and corrected.
