ABSTRACT

There are several shorter General Epistles attributed to different authors, called ‘general’ because not directed at one specific congregation. Those attributed to Peter and Jude are not included here. This one is traditionally attributed to James, the brother of Jesus, but also by different scholars to other Jameses. The evidence is not conclusive, and perhaps the matter is not important. According to choice in the matter, however, the Epistle is usually dated either c.ad 65, or as late as ad 125–150.
