ABSTRACT

The first edition of this book was published in 2001 and written over five or six years previous to that. The very first version, written exclusively for a course at Nottingham Trent University, did not have a separate chapter on the environment, although it used environmental political issues in providing examples of different facets of international affairs. Despite the omission of a specific chapter, environmental issues were increasingly on the agenda of international relations in ways which this chapter will describe. A separate chapter became unavoidable as publication neared.
