ABSTRACT
Months before shots were fired in Sarajevo, Britain’s most famous debating club, the Oxford Union, welcomed visitors for a special debate on international affairs. The motion placed before the debaters on 29 May 1914 was ‘That this House condemns the Triple Entente as embodying both an unnecessary and an unnatural policy’.
