ABSTRACT
Affix noun, is a letter or group of letters added to the beginning or end of a word to change its meaning, or to change the way it relates to the rest of the sentence. Thus affix means both prefix and suffix. The word independent has the prefix in- and suddenly has the suffix -ly. Both in- and -ly are affixes.
