ABSTRACT

Part IV explores in more detail the key social policy areas in Britain. We will consider the big areas of social policy: health, social care, housing, education, work and pensions, but will consider also wider policy areas such as family, social divisions, criminal justice, the environment, and the impact of Europe and the international dimension. Some of these areas are often not considered to be part of social policy but are dealt with in texts more normally associated with economics, law or political science. However, we consider them to be central to the making and understanding of social policy.
