ABSTRACT
Treating children as individuals and helping them to progress as confident and competent independent learners is most succinctly delineated within the context of this quote from government policy on early years. It is at the very foundation of effective teaching and learning from the earliest years of education. This chapter will consider how children’s learning can be developed and enhanced through the creation of the right sort of learning environment, where they are appropriately supported by practitioners.
