ABSTRACT
In this chapter we discuss the uses of observation as a research tool to inform evidence-based practice. We first explore the use of different methods of observation for different purposes and provide a rationale for choosing them. We continue by conceptualising observation as method and as context by outlining their main philosophical differences and conclude by relating these concepts to debates about qualitative and quantitative research.
