ABSTRACT
In this chapter we discuss the ethical implication of conducting observations and outline some of the issues you should consider before you request access to a child and/or setting. We first provide an overview of ethics in social sciences and research, and then discuss the requirements to gain informed consent from both adults and the child to be observed. We address some of the dilemmas experienced by observers and conclude with the fundamental principles of safeguarding children's well-being.
