ABSTRACT
We discuss the problem of how the word spiritual is to be understood, and we give our own understanding of the term. The links between the spiritual and the religious are then explored, and in particular their relationship to experience. We suggest possible ways in the classroom of encouraging spiritual development through work in Art, and a focus on the religious/spiritual experience of St Francis and Sri Ramana.
