ABSTRACT

Lawe Salicke: A collection of folk customs and laws of no relevance to the succession which had become associated with Henry's claim to the throne ofFrance. Henry derived his claim from the marriage ofPhilip IV's daughter, Isabella, to his great great grandfather Edward 11. When, however, IsabeIla's eIder brother Louis X had died in 1316, Isabella and her heirs had been debarred from the succession which had passed to the house of Valois.
