ABSTRACT
The strategy devised by the Royalists for the 1643 campaigning season has been the subject of a debate that has rumbled on for years among those who write about seventeenth-century English history. Parliament’s strategy, on the other hand, has attracted little attention other than as part of the backdrop against which political squabbles were played out at Westminster and in the city of London.
