ABSTRACT

When we study British politics, we tend to look inward - at party politics and parliamentary affairs, at public policies on the environment and the economy, at governmental services like health care and criminal justice. But the British government is responsible for much more. It must also ensure national security and promote Britain's national interests, and it must take decisions and implement policies that allow Britain to benefit from the processes of economic interdependence and globalisation that are eroding national sovereignty. It also arguably has the responsibility to promote Britain's values abroad.
