ABSTRACT

This chapter provides testers with a new and unique perspective and a deep insight into tests and the meanings. The chapter learns the testing game the rules to follow, even if the not rational and no sense. Dingo in Arnheim, the Netherlands, during a conference on language testing, my friend and colleague Tim McNamara and self found us deeply engaged in a conversation with a drug junkie. It shows how powerful the owners of the testing information are in relation to the powerlessness of test takers. They don't view tests useful tools for learning and tests detached from 'real life' knowledge and performance. Test takers believe that classroom tests do not necessarily serve educational tools the often serve other purposes. High-level test takers, on the other hand, often additional opportunities to demonstrate the competencies, as failure on one testing occasion perceived an exception to the generally high performance. Test takers are very realistic about the consequences of the tests.
