ABSTRACT

This chapter presents an outline for the implementation of the principal contractor's health and safety management system. The essence of approach is to assure that there are safe systems of work enacted through implementing safety conscious procedures in key project areas. Seven key elements form the basis of the system which commences with information drawn from the pretender health and safety plan and concludes with external information flow to the project health and safety file and internal feedback to the policy making mechanisms of the principal contractor. System records and documentation are essential to effective implementation and therefore suggested pro forma are presented for each system element.
