ABSTRACT

The paper that follows was a contribution to a symposium in which six prominent exponents of post-modernist critical theory presented critiques of 'science' and 'rationality', with three responses. Mine was one, though submitted with reluctance, for reasons explained. My response keeps to explicit quotes. The sources are not identified - frankly, because I was not sure that the authors would appreciate personal identification - but can easily be found in the original publication (https://www.zmag.org/ScienceWars/index.htm). Re-reading the response after seven years, and after having read a good deal more of post-modern, post-structuralist critique, I do not see much to add to these comments. The critiques discussed here have not, to my knowledge, been superseded. Later contributions are subject to essentially the same ~esponses, as far as I am aware.
