ABSTRACT
The education system is a good weather vane of society since its multiple roles make it the focus of social change and discontent. A number of protest movements have originated within the education system in recent years which, in addition to drawing attention to aspects of the system that have failed to function properly, have all exposed other problems of a more broadly social nature.
