ABSTRACT

The sources on French politics are many and varied and are often very good. In French the three main journals are Revue politique et parlementaire (Presses universitaires de France), Revue française de science politique (Presses de la Fondation nationale des sciences politiques) and Pouvoirs (Presses universitaires de France). In English, there is Modern and Contemporary France (Longman), which has not only full-length articles, but also shorter items on recent developments, conference reports and a wealth of book reviews. The American equivalent is French Politics, Culture and Society, produced by the Center for European Studies at Harvard University. West European Politics (Frank Cass) often has articles on France. Two useful annual reviews are Année politique et économique (PUF) and L’État de la France (La Découverte). The daily newspaper Le Monde, as well as being an unbeatable day-to-day source of news about political developments, produces ‘dossiers et documents’ on national elections and other major political events.
