ABSTRACT
Heat is very important in all environmental systems. Heat, which is the most common form of energy, is formally defined as the kinetic energy possessed by a substance as a consequence of the movement of its constituent atoms and molecules. Heat should not be confused with temperature. Temperature is a manifestation of the amount of heat contained in a system. Different objects of the same temperature will contain, mass for mass, different amounts of heat.
