ABSTRACT

Although there is no single business strategy to suit all firms, this chapter examines a number of approaches to the development of an effective business strategy. The issue of fee-bidding and the development of new service provision is discussed against the need to balance risk and reward. These issues naturally lead on to a debate about how to achieve competitive advantage, either through specialisation or diversity. The chapter concludes with a look at possible approaches to the management of environmentally responsible ideals and practices.
