ABSTRACT

Does gender identity make any difference in people’s everyday life experiences? Do men and women define comfort, belonging and commitment differently? This chapter aims to deal with these questions. After a detailed analysis that focused on each of the themes separately (Chapters 5, 6 and 7) this chapter aims to examine whether identity issues, that of gender, matters in people’s daily experiences regarding the three related themes. The decision to write a chapter focusing on gender issues rather then examining gender identity in the chapters derives from the idea that it is important to do an analysis that works across the themes in addition to the analyses presented in previous chapters, which focused on each of the themes separately.
