ABSTRACT
Welcome to Environments in a Changing World. You may be one of the first-year undergraduate students of geography for whom this book was primarily written, or you may be part of a more general readership with a developed interest in the environment and environmental issues. Either way, we hope to introduce you to the social processes that shape premodern, modern and postmodern environments; the manner in which these environments shape continued social development; and the prospects for creating more healthy and fulfilling environments for greater numbers of the world’s people In the future. On the way we will explore a range of environmental Issues, trace evolving geographical thought, and encourage you to take an informed and active role In environmental politics.
