ABSTRACT

Akhmiltova, Anna (Gorenko, Anna Andreevna) (11.vi.1889-5.iii.1966): Poet. Educated in Tsarskoe sela where she met her husband, the poet Nikolai Gumilev (q.v.), whom she married in 1910 and divorced in 1918. In 1907 she graduated in law from the Kiev College for Women. 1912 saw the publication of her first book of poetry, Evening. Considered by many to be the best Russian poet of the twentieth century, her poems include Requiem and Poem without a Hero.
