ABSTRACT
Internet newsgroups, frequently referred to as Usenet (USENET) newsgroups, Usenet News, or just Usenet, are all terms employed to refer to a framework of electronic discussion forums arranged in subject and other hierarchies. Many of the comments that I have made already in connection with the usefulness of mailing lists apply in equal measure to newsgroups. They are, as Keeler and Miller (1997) point out, ‘one of the best places online to get the most recent information or advice on a staggering array of topics’.
