ABSTRACT

There is no other delivery platform to rival the Internet in terms of the range, volume, geographical spread and immediacy of news coverage that is easily and freely available. No library could afford the acquisition of as many hardcopy equivalents of electronic newspapers, Usenet newsgroups and electronic magazines, nor afford the costs of ordering and archiving such a volume of materials. If you are interested in knowing what is on today’s agenda of the General Assembly of the United Nations or the European Parliament or Commission, what the weather is in Tokyo or the level of the Hang Seng, what are the television and radio schedules in Toronto, or what political news is breaking in Damascus or Pretoria, it is frequently much easier to locate such information from Internet sources than from any other.
