ABSTRACT

The materials referred to include all naturally occurring materials such as wood and stone, manufactured materials, components, items of equipment and any backfilling materials. All materials possess differing inherent durabilities and their length of useful life will also be affected by the way in which they are used. High alumina cement and any products containing it are only acceptable in a building as heat-resisting materials. They are not permitted in any structural work, including foundations. The removal of insulating board containing asbestos is not subject to the Asbestos (Licensing) Regulations but it is recommended that the same degree of care is exercised. No matter what the quality of the materials used in building, if the workmanship is not of an equally high standard the result will be less than satisfactory. A short-lived material may meet the requirements of the Regulations provided that it is readily accessible for inspection, maintenance and replacement.
