ABSTRACT

Terrain results from the action of climate on rocks whose nature and distribution reflect their structure and Ethology. Thus, differentiations between landforms are due to a combination of ‘climatovariance’, ‘epeirovariance’, and ‘petrovariance’. Landform recognition and analysis have been greatly assisted in recent years through the availability of remotely sensed imagery and illustrated texts which use it (e.g. Verstappen, 1983) or are based entirely on it (e.g. Presch et al., 1985; van Zuidam, 1985; Short and Blair, 1986).
