ABSTRACT
The vital role of man in ecology has been stressed within several topics considered so far. This last chapter summarizes man’s past impact on British ecosystems and presents two detailed regional examples. The ecological activities of man are a continuing phenomenon and present and probable future patterns of these are also examined in ecosystem terms. The difficulties arising from multiple land use and mounting recreational pressures on our countryside are then considered, particularly with respect to the conservation problems they pose for environmental planners.
