ABSTRACT

In the last two chapters attention has been focused on the help given to those older people who need some outside support. The main sources of help, apart from the statutory services, were described. In this chapter attention is turned to the help which older people themselves give to others. This is set in the context of theoretical perspectives. The help given by older people, both to their own families and to others, is examined. Then the wider role of older people in policy making is assessed.
