Like all other areas of contrect law, the basic principles apply. Thus, without the essenfiel element s of a contract, the contract wou ld be void and there wou ld be 00 binding rights and duties . In ad dition 10 the rotes of common law, there are a wideranging number of Acts of Parliament which gowm different aspects of employment. The law has recently been consolldated in the Employmen t Rights Act 1996 (the Act).
