ABSTRACT

The claim is presented under a contract in the Joint Contracts Tribunal form, but shows a typical form which might be adopted in many cases. The claim statement gives only such information as should be needed by those, such as the employer, the architect and the quantity surveyor who have a close acquaintance with the project. Some comments are given on a single all-embracing claim document of the traditional type presented as one entity at or after the end of construction. The ‘big bang’ occurs when a total view is needed before finalisation is possible. The sequence follows that of the preceding narrative and there may be short claim documents where the two could be combined to avoid undue repetition. The crux of the case and the amount of claim should be given early on in the document, with the supporting detail following as just that — support.
