ABSTRACT

Several elements can affect the operation of the programme. One is the incidence of nominated or named subcontractors under the appropriate contract form. References to the site are made specifically in respect of the employer giving possession to the contractor and of any obligations and restrictions which the employer may impose over use. The traditional practice when tendering has been to place on the contractor as much risk as is reasonable over the costs of excavation and associated works. Standard contracts are usually linked to the concept of the contractor being given full and uninterrupted possession of the site for the duration of the contract works. The contractor should look to the architect for technical and programme information, while acting to coordinate his precise activities by day-to-day consultation with direct contractors to the extent set out in the contract bills.
