ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to reinforce the arguments of the preceding four chapters by looking at the political experiences of women in the USA, Australia, France, Germany and Italy. These countries have been selected for both their similarities with and differences from Britain. They provide a mix of European and non-European, fascist and non-fascist countries, as well as representing three countries where women were enfranchised and two where they were not. While women in politics, in health and educational employment, and in welfare campaigns enjoyed varying fortunes, the factors determining their success were similar to those in Britain.
