ABSTRACT
Was the Affair over? Yes and no. As far as the Waldeck-Rousseau government was concerned, the main legal question had been disposed of, and the turmoil in the country subsided with remarkable rapidity. The plotters’ lack of success showed that disaffection in the army had not been extensive, and the limited nature of Galliffet’s disciplinary measures was enough to restore calm among the military.
